Learning outcomes

The student is able to
- explain the importance of financial management in the strategic processes of an organization
- measure and support the strategic financial objectives of the organization
- interpret financial management tools and utilize financial management in budgeting

Implementation and methods of teaching

The course is implemented 100 % online in the spring 2021. The course will commence with an online session in March. There will be an individual pre-assignment before that. During the course, students will play a business simulation game in teams. A reflective, individual learning diary is written throughout the course, and at the end, teams will prepare a presentation on their business game results and performance.

Timing and attendance

The course is implemented between March - May 2021. The schedule of the online sessions is as follows:

Attendance in the sessions (through Zoom) is recommended - especially the first and the final session are important.

Learning material and recommended literature

Material and literature recommendations are provided on the course Moodle site, which will be opened by the end of January 2021.

Contents

The course is implemented through a business simulation game that reflects real world business challenges and results. The aim is to practice business planning, decision-making and problem solving skills on a strategic level. Special emphasis is put on learning to follow and utilize financial metrics and key performance indicators in business planning and decision-making.

Evaluation is based on assignments and performance in the business game.
