Learning outcomes

The student is able to
- communicate in most common everyday situations
- understand slowly and clearly spoken Finnish provided the topic and the vocabulary are connected with their own life and experience
- understand the key idea of a simple message or text and write one by themselves
- master the most common vocabulary and some grammatical structures of Finnish.

Student´s work: 5 ects = 135 hours work

- lessons 28 hours, independent work 107 hours

- 9 weeks = 11,5 hours/week

Contents

Family and describing oneself, telling the time, living and houses, communication in everyday situations, verb types, 50 basic verbs, nominative plural and local cases, possessive sentences and imperative singular.

Additional information for students: previous knowledge etc.

Finnish for Foreigners 1 or Survival Finnish

Assessment criteria

Participation and activity in the lessons; homework and studying at home, assignments and tasks, passing the exam.

Evaluation: Exam (30 %), assignment (30 %), and tasks (30 %).

Assessment criteria: level 3 (assessment scale 1–5)

The student
