Learning outcomes

The student is able to
- to select the most relevant literature related to the selected topics
- to write informative and clear reviews by using scientific terms and methods
- to analyze references and content of them
- to discuss about the literature and the topics with other students

Implementation and methods of teaching

The course contains one briefing lecture on-line in ZOOM 10.2.2022.
The student will prepare essays based on the selected sustainability and/or circular economy topics. The essay can be based on a one or several references. The important part is to analyze the referred text in the context of the writer´s own field of interest, future job or research. The credits will be calculated based on the content and length of the list of references (200 pages is about 1 ECTS). Student should also participate in one book club session at least to share their knowledge with other students. The book club sessions will be arranged every second Wednesday in March and April. At least one of the seminars will be arranged as face-to-face seminar in Lahti campus in which students can also participate if desired.

Timing and attendance

The course contains one briefing lecture on-line in ZOOM 10.2.2022. Student must participate at least in one book club session, which will be arranged every second week in March and April.

Learning material and recommended literature

Student can select the literature according to his/her own interest or from the list given by teachers. However, the subject must somehow relate to the circular economy, sustainability or environmental technology.

Alternative completion methods

Discussion with responsible teachers is mandatory.

Exam retakes

The course will be arranged every spring.

Learning environment

Virtual seminars in Zoom. One face to face seminar will be arranged in Lahti.

Student time use and work load

The credits will be calculated based on the content and length of the list of references (200 pages is about 1 ECTS). 1 ECT equals with 27 hours of work.

The student´s knowledge does not meet the competence requirements of the course

Assessment criteria: level 1 (assessment scale 1–5)

Presentation and blog(s) knowledge base is accessible, but it´s structure is imperfect and illogical. The chosen literature is relevant and it is analyzed in approved level. Student´s own views are presented as instructed. The references and sources are indicated, but there are shortcomings in them. The report is clear and it is done following LAB UAS´s layout and reporting instructions. Student participated to the book club session. .

Assessment criteria: level 3 (assessment scale 1–5)

The selected literature is justified and defined. The information is searched, used, and applied from several information sources. The blog(s) structure is mostly consistent and text is well written. The sources and references are indicated with almost no errors. If report contains images, figures, or tables they are appropriate, clear and referred to in the text. The blog layout follows the instructions of LAB Focus blog instructions. A student participates in the reading circles actively.

Assessment criteria: level 5 (assessment scale 1–5)

The blogs contain new and demanding perspectives, also the references and the content are well defined and justified. The knowledge base and other parts of the report are dealt versatile. The diverse and reliable information sources are used. The knowledge base and conclusions are logical, well presented, combined, and justified. The LAB Focus instructions are fully followed. The review contains innovative viewpoints. Student also participates actively in session, sharing information and one´s knowledge with other students propriety.
