Learning outcomes

The student is able to
- design and produce typefaces
- describe the requirements of commercial typefaces
- release a typeface using essential type design software

Implementation and methods of teaching

Lectures will be in English. This course demands a lot of independed study time. Type design is a demanding, time consuming effort.

Timing and attendance

Minimum 80% attendance. Speak with the teacher about tasks or reading material if you miss any days.

Student time use and work load

Students are required to work on their font designs between classes. The independent study time will be scheduled and will take place in the same computer classroom.

Contents

On this course the students will gain an understanding of the type design process, they will design and produce their own typeface using Glyphs.

Additional information for students: previous knowledge etc.

A good understanding of typography and applications are necessary for attending this course. Graphic designers must have completed all previous typography courses to be able to join this course.
No previous knowledge of type design or type design software is required.

you will learn to use Glyphs font design software. It is installed at one computer classroom. You can choose to use your own laptop, but please note you must have your own Glyphs license.
