Learning outcomes
The student is able to
- discuss symbols, logos, signage systems and their elements
- design a target oriented symbol and a logo
- present her/his graphic work and explain the design choices.
Implementation and methods of teaching
Lectures, tasks, presentations and discussions. Feedback will be given on the last day.
Timing and attendance
The schedule is in the course's Moodle environment. Obligatory presence on the first day, lectures and presentations. There is no need for additional tasks when absent but tasks have to do within given time.

Presented evidence of experience and learned skills e.g. in work life.
Working life cooperation
If possible the main task is a co-operation project.

Tasks 65 %, lectures 10 %, literature ja learning tasks 10 %, presentations and discussions 15 %.
Contents
During the course we will find out the elements of symbols, signs, logos signage systems and how to design target oriented signs and logos. The tasks is to design logos and symbols using the learnt methods and processes.
Additional information for students: previous knowledge etc.
Basic studies of art and typography. Basic skills of using vector graphics ja layout software, e.g. Adobe Illustrator and InDesign.
Assessment criteria
Tasks 80 %, presentations and discussions 20 %.

B1 Is able to apply diversely learnt methods and processes

A1 Is able to use broad-based the professional terminology of logo design and communicate taking in consideration the target group
B1 Is able to choose suitable methods and processes for actions and argue the decisions.
C3 Is able to take appropriately in consideration the needs of the target group.

A1 Is able to expertly use the professional methods of logo design and based on those build a functional symbol systems
