Implementation and methods of teaching

The 72h traffic challenge will be implemented as an intensive period from 7 November to 10 November 2023 on the Lahti campus and partly also in other locations in the city center. The students are divided into multidisciplinary groups, which are given a development task on the first day. The contact days include various expert lectures and plenty of group work, which is also sparred by professionals from different fields.

The assignment materials are in both Finnish and English. Groups can work in either Finnish or English.

Timing and attendance

Intensive week 7-10 November 2023. The student must participate in the entire program in order to receive an approved performance.

Learning material and recommended literature

Background material is introduced to the students in the beginning of the week.

Alternative completion methods

No other options to pass the course.

Working life cooperation

The intensive course is based on strong working life cooperation, which involves several public and private organizations and companies. The city of Lahti has chosen the task of developing the course.

Exam retakes

No chance to repeat.

Learning environment

The program for different days takes place in the following places:
Start on Tuesday 7.11. Isku Areena, Svinhufvudinkatu 29
Other locations in Lahti: Lahti Science Park, Niemenkatu 73, Sibeliustalo, Ankkurikatu 7
The working premises are reserved at the Lahti campus, Mukkulankatu 19

Student time use and work load

The program consists of the following day programs, part of which is for introductions, expert meetings and part is reserved for group work:
Tuesday 7.11. from 11 am to 8 pm
Wednesday 8.11. from 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m
Thursday 9.11. 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. (mainly working)
Friday 10.11. 8-11 a.m. final group presentations, from 12:30 p.m. announcement of results and distribution of prizes

Group work is evaluated by a panel of experts based on the following criteria:

The evaluation criteria for the competition works (total 100 points) consist of the following parts:
Answering the objectives 25 p
Innovativeness and vision 20 p
Group work 10 p
Utilization of media 15 p
Feasibility 10 p
Reporting 10 p
Presentation 10 p

The work and its results do not meet the requirements of the evaluation criteria.

Assessment criteria: level 1 (assessment scale 1–5)

Working and the results of group work correspond to the requirements of the evaluation criteria at the basic level.

Assessment criteria: level 3 (assessment scale 1–5)

The work and the results of the group work well meet the requirements of the evaluation criteria.

Assessment criteria: level 5 (assessment scale 1–5)

The work and the results of the group work perfectly meet the requirements of the evaluation criteria.
