On completion of this course, the students should have a basic background knowledges of possible usage of renewable energies. They should understand the basic principles of hydropower and windpower plants and turbines and they should be able to calculate basic properties and dimensions. Furthermore they should be able to calculate the performance and the efficency of an simple solar heat- to-power engine and a heat pump.
1. Fundamentals of thermodynamics: state quantities, flow rates, balance equations, kinds of energy, thermodynamical system, steady and transient problems
2. Natural energy transformations and their physical modeling
3.Physical description and calculation of simple machines: hydropower and wind power plants
4. Calculation of energy storages
5. Fundamentals of solar heat-to-power engines and heat pumps
