After this course, a student can:

-face the acute patient; make a primary assessment, secondary assessment and work diagnose
-recognice emergency patient based on symptoms and findings and start immidiate care
-knows basic level care and treatments for different illnesses based on a work diagnose
-justify the decicions in care
-knows non-technical - patient safe care
-handles communication, documentation and usage of Virve-network in emergency care
-understand aseptic and infection preventing work manners (personal hygienia, patient work and ambulance&equipment maintenance)
-knows medications and fluid therapy in basic level
-understand ergonomic and work-safe way to work
-make ethically right decicions
-work in multi-authority situations
-work as a situation leader in basic level

Assessment scale

Assessment criteria: level 3 (assessment scale 1–5)

The student is able to face the patient in acute situations and make a correct primary assessment. Data collection and anamnesis are accomplished as instructed by interviewing the patient. The examination required for an detailed assessment of the situation is logical and consistent. The basic level paramedic care started on the basis of the collected information is correct. Medications and the use of treatment technology are safe. The student is able to make independent decisions and lead others. The student uses the non-technical skills required for patient-safe work in a acute situations.

The exam test opens after the last simulation day and is open for 2 weeks. Renewals are agreed with the course teachers separately.

- Active participation and 100% presence in the course lessons, exercises and simulation
- Group task and participation in it
- Making Moodle assignments

Assessment scale

1-5

Assessment criteria: level 1 (assessment scale 1–5)

- The student is not capable of a consistent encounter with a patient in a first aid situation.
- Making an initial assessment is missing or is only partially realized.
- Things related to the interview and examinations required by the treatment protocol remain unfulfilled.
- The selected line of treatment is not justified and/or the treatment involves factors that endanger patient safety. - Treatment of the patient's position and transfer is not possible with the taught methods.
- Control of the necessary treatment technology is uncertain.
- Cooperation, communication, decision-making and situation management cannot be achieved independently.

Assessment criteria: level 3 (assessment scale 1–5)

- Student knows how to face a patient in a first aid situation with confidence and make the patient's initial assessment correctly.
- Student progresses naturally and consistently in data collection and taking an anamnesis.
- Student knows how to examine the patient comprehensively and critically analyze the information he has acquired.
- Treating the patient is certain and the student is able to justify the treatment given.
- Communication related to the situation is clear, targeted and assured. Management and decision-making is certain.
- In handling and reporting, the student uses verifying checklists.
