- deepen their theoretical knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, cardiology, neurology, traumatology, anaesthesiology, pediatrics and pharmacology
- explain / justify the decisions made in the care of an emergency patient based on the theoretical knowledge of the main medical specialties
- is familiar with the mechanisms of action and side effects of key medicines used in emergency care and hospital acute care.

Assessment criteria: level 1 (assessment scale 1–5)

The student is familiar with the world of emergency care, its significance in the overall care of patients and the professional groups that usually work in the emergency department. The student knows the basics of patient classification in the most common emergency situations. The student knows the most common laboratory and imaging examinations performed in emergency areas. The student knows the main features of the trauma protocol used in the emergency department and, with assistance, is able to follow the task assigned to him or her in it. The student also knows how to treat the most common urgent emergency patients and understands the effects of various diseases on a person.

Assessment criteria: level 3 (assessment scale 1–5)

The student is familiar with the world of emergency care, its significance in the overall care of patients and the professional groups that usually work in the emergency department. The student is familiar with the practical implementation of patient classification both in the normal everyday life of the emergency department and also in the most demanding situations. The student knows the most common laboratory and imaging examinations performed in emergency rooms and is able to utilize the information they produce in patient care. The student knows the trauma protocol used in the emergency department and is able to follow the task assigned to him or her in it. The student also knows how to treat the most common urgent emergency patients and understands the effects of various diseases on a person.

Assessment criteria: level 5 (assessment scale 1–5)

The student is able to explain with justification the world of emergency care, its significance in the overall care of the patient and the professional groups that usually work in the emergency department. The student is familiar with the practical implementation of patient classification both in the normal everyday life of the emergency department and also in the most demanding situations. If necessary, the student is also able to classify patients in order of urgency in the emergency department. The student has extensive knowledge of laboratory and imaging examinations carried out in emergency rooms and is able to utilize the information they produce in patient care. The student knows the trauma protocol used in the emergency department and is able to follow the task assigned to him or her in it. The student also knows how to treat most urgent emergency patients and understands and is able to justify the effects of various diseases on a person.
