Implementation and methods of teaching

Teaching takes place at the Skinnarila campus in the fine arts facilities mainly from 9-16 from Tuesday to Thursday. Students are expected to be present also on Fridays by independent studying. Some assignments may also be completed on your own outside these times. Teaching includes exercises, lectures and feedback discussions.

Timing and attendance

Remote learning is not possible.
Attendance 80%.

Contents

Conceptual in Painting

The course consists of artistic work, lectures, feedback and group discussions. As exercises, you will make paintings, which will be examined with an emphasis on conceptual content, as well as an essay on your work.

The course will explore the conceptual dimensions of painting and seek to discover the relationship of one's own work to linguistic way of thinking, as well as the relationship of painting to other media (intermediality), such as photography, moving image and text and other works, art historical developments and other contemporary art (intertextuality).

The aim is to better understand how paintings are interpreted: how they open up to others, how they are perceived and what kind of thinking they provoke.

Students will perceive their work as part of the field of contemporary painting, and understand the interrelationship of their work with other visual cultures.

They will have a good knowledge of the vocabulary of the profession and be able to communicate on an equal footing with visual arts professionals.

Can apply a wide range of options to the artistic work process

Can create paintings based on his/her own ideas in a guided and independent way and develop them on the basis of the feedback received

Can independently identify and compare the main professional methods, tools and concepts used and apply them to his/her own expression

Can evaluate and justify his/her own skills and set artistic, content-related and technical development goals

Can follow and describe the professional debate in his/her field

Assessment criteria: level 5 (assessment scale 1–5)

Can apply and develop a variety of options for his/her artistic work process

Is able to use what he/she has learned in a planned and creative way when creating paintings and apply the feedback received
