80% attendance in lessons.

Literature provided by the teacher.
Alternative completion methods
To be agreed separately with the teacher. Lectures are mostly in Finnish and for foreign students course is mainly independent work with texts.

One credit is on average 27 student working hours, 5op= 135h.
Contents
The course includes reading theoretical texts on visual culture, looking at images and learning to write, for example, photographic criticism and analytical reflection on images with reference to literary sources. The course prepares students for writing a thesis, for example.

Image and Theory with the course Image analysis forms a rich theoretical framework.
The course is characterised by a particular focus on writing in conjunction with images and source texts. The teacher will provide personal written feedback on the texts in Moodle.
The emphasis will be on the analysis of photographs.
Assessment criteria
(Participation in lessons). Successful completion of written and oral assignments.

The student has been absent for more than the 80% attendance allowed. Written assignments have not been returned.

The student's participation in the classes and the written assignments show that the student has mastered the content of the course. The student has completed the given written assignments, but they are scarce in content.

The student's active participation in class and written assignments indicate familiarity with the writing material provided in the course. Students have been able to select images and texts as a basis for their own writing. The texts are logical, using sources appropriately and reflecting the student's own thinking and interpretation.

The student's active participation in class and the written assignments indicate excellent familiarity with the writing material provided in the course. Students have shown an insightful ability to choose images and texts as a basis for their own writing. The texts are logical and publishable, with appropriate use of sources and the student's own thinking and interpretation bringing out new, fresh perspectives on the subject.
