Contents

he main theoretical starting point of the course is documentary photography. Traditional documentary approaches will be critically examined with a view to exploring alternative approaches.

The course provides a theoretical basis and an introduction to the making of a documentary photography project. The course is part of a whole, which also includes the course Documentary Photography Project.

Attendance, activity in class and written assignments.

The student has been absent for more than the allowed 80% attendance. Written assignments have not been returned.

Assessment criteria: level 1 (assessment scale 1–5)

The student's participation in the classes and the written assignments show that the student has mastered the content of the course. The student has completed the given written assignments, but they are scarce in content.

Assessment criteria: level 3 (assessment scale 1–5)

The student's active participation in class and written assignments indicate familiarity with the writing material provided in the course. Students have been able to select images and texts as a basis for their own writing. The texts are logical, using sources appropriately and reflecting the student's own thinking and interpretation.

Assessment criteria: level 5 (assessment scale 1–5)

The student's active participation in class and the written assignments indicate excellent familiarity with the writing material provided in the course.
Students have shown an insightful ability to choose images and texts as a basis for their own writing.The texts are logical and publishable, with appropriate use of sources and the student's own thinking and interpretation bringing out new, fresh perspectives on the subject.
