Implementation and methods of teaching

This course is targeted at Packaging and Brand Design students, exchange students, and other students interested in working in the packaging lab and learning to make simple packaging prototypes.

The mock-ups and prototypes are made of carton and corrugated board, as well as simple 3D printed samples. Copy machines are also used.
This workshop license will give access and skills to use a laser cutter, Kongsberg packaging sample-making machine and 3D printers.

Timing and attendance

Participation in contact days is required at the campus. No online participation possibility.

Learning material and recommended literature

Basic course materials are provided during the course. Prior skills are not a must but basic ArtiosCAD / CAD and Adobe Illustrator skills are recommended.

The ability to design 3D printable objects is required.

Contents

This workshop license gives a student basic know-how on how to work in the packaging workshop.

- First, students will get to know how to build prototypes of for example paper, carton and corrugated board by hand in a safe and sustainable way.
- After hand sample making, the students get the know-how on how to use the workshop's laser cutter and Kongsberg packaging sample-making machine, and 3D printers of the campus.
The know-how is built through exercises and a group task and is based on experimentation and practical hands-on way of working enhanced with technology.

Additional information for students: previous knowledge etc.

The ability to design 3D printable objects is required.
