Learning outcomes

Implementation and methods of teaching

Quality management systems course is a virtual course. Students will learn the requirements for Quality management systems according to ISO 19001, how to audit a QMS, how to implement a QMS, and finally how to plan and report the audits. Case examples will help the students to understand better of the course content.
Each session of the course includes group work and assignments for better understanding and reviewing the topics that have been discussed.
In addition there will be individual assignments to pass this course.
The individual and group work assignments counts 40% of the final grade.
The final project is 50% of the final grade and is done in the group of 4-5 students.
More detailed description of the teaching material will be provided in the introduction of the first session.

Timing and attendance

This Course is held during Autumn semester 9.2024- 12- 2024.
Active participation of the course is 10% of the final grade

Learning material and recommended literature

This course is taught based on different scientific books, articles and resources. The course materials will be uploaded after each session in moodle and the additional learning material will be provided for the students' interest in the topic and further learning

Alternative completion methods

Can be discussed with the instructor. Students should inform the teacher ASAP to discuss.

The average work load for this course is estimated to be 135 hours (5 ECTS). The main part of the study module´s work load consists of independent and group work, about 115 hours (including individual assignments and final group work). The time allocation for contact learning is about 20 hours.

Integrated Management 2 / Integrated Management Systems is a 5 ects course organized as A cooperation between LAB University of Applied Sciences , Lahti , and the THM Department Business Administration and Engineering ( BAaE)

Timing and attendance

Course Time Schedule 2023, including the Excursion’s Schedule (Plan)
• Start of the lecture : April 12 (time is to be announced).
• End of the lecture: May 31.
• Start of group work with defining the working groups and topics: at least from May 31
• Departure to Finland: Monday, June 05 with arrival in Lahti.
• Teaching and working units in Lahti: half day courses from Tuesday, June 06 till
Thursday, June 08, final presentations of group work on Friday, June 09 ( exact times
are to be announced).

** Finnish students can join the Lahti week online.

Learning material and recommended literature

Course topics:
- Integrated Management theory with a general look on Total Quality Management, the Toyota Production
System, Lean Management and the EFQM Model and a detailed look on the St. Gallen Management Model
(Philosophy, Task Perspective and Practice Overview, application and comparison of
management systems in organizations for quality, environment, safety and health at work, energy and risks.
Information and Communication Management (overview).

- Group work (= exam in form of a presentation) presentation):
in concern of an organization or a project the developing of strategies and measures for implementing an Integrated
Management System as well as the development of a Communication Platform based upon the St. Gallen
Management Modell’s Practice Perspective “Management Practice”.
