The course requires attendance and completion of the assigned tasks.

Exam retakes

The date of the exam will be announced during the period. Rejected exams can be renewed. The renewal of the exam can be agreed with the course leader.

Teaching is mainly organised on campus. Some parts are delivered through distance learning.

Contents

This session will introduce you to the use of a interchangeable-lens digital camera through practical exercises. The characteristics of lenses with different focal lengths are also introduced. In addition to camera technology, you will learn the basics of digital imaging, how to open and manipulate raw files and how to manage image files. We will also learn about the school's large format printers and the basics of colour management.

The course will study photographic expression. The course includes a photographic assignment.

Additional information for students: previous knowledge etc.

No previous knowledge required. The course uses the school's camera equipment. In some cases it is possible to use your own equipment in addition to the school's cameras, but the tasks must be carried out mainly with shared equipment.

Assessment criteria

The assessment will be based on a photographic assignment, an exam and active participation and attendance. Half of the assessment will be based on the assignment and half on the exam. Attendance may raise or lower the grade for the assignment and the exam by up to one point. The sectional assignment will be assessed in terms of visual expression, work process and technical execution.

Failed (0)

Approved performance (grades 1-5) requires an approved examination (minimum grade of 1) and a visual assignment carried out according to the instructions, with a grade of at least 1. Approved performance also requires sufficient attendance.

Assessment criteria: level 1 (assessment scale 1–5)

Has a command of the technical terminology and concepts related to digital photography and demonstrates a knowledge base in the field. Can apply the techniques, working methods and processes learnt to a photographic assignment.

Assessment criteria: level 3 (assessment scale 1–5)

Can use key digital photography terminology and jargon consistently and demonstrate a good command of the knowledge base. Can apply a wide range of techniques, working methods and processes to produce interesting photographic work.

Assessment criteria: level 5 (assessment scale 1–5)

Can use the professional terminology and terminology related to digital photography in a versatile and competent manner and has a good command of the knowledge base of the field. Can select and justify techniques, working methods and processes appropriate to the activity and produce particularly skilful and interesting photographic work using the techniques and working methods learnt.
