Implementation and methods of teaching

Lectures, exercises, individual and group feedback discussion.

Timing and attendance

Attendance at the first lesson is compulsory. To pass the course, 80% attendance is required.

Learning material and recommended literature

Literature will be indicated in the course Moodle.

Alternative completion methods

To be agreed individually with the teacher.

Learning environment

The course will be arranged as contact teaching at the Lahti campus.

Student time use and work load

The course requires independent work in addition to classroom attendance. The expected workload per student is 135 working hours, including contact teaching.

Contents

The course introduces the methods of graphic design and includes an assignment. The assignment includes typography, folding and illustration. Successful completion of the course requires systematic and determined work, taking into account the needs of the target group and the client. During the course you will also learn how to present your own ideas and finished work to a group.

Assessment criteria

Assessment is based on the assignment completed during the course and active participation in class and discussions.

- The student does not know how to use professional terminology and does not justify their activities using professional methods

Assessment criteria: level 1 (assessment scale 1–5)

- The student is able to conceive and implement simple graphic design projects
- The student can use the most common professional terms and justify their work
- The student can use the methods and processes learned under supervision

Assessment criteria: level 3 (assessment scale 1–5)

- The student is able to conceive and implement graphic design works independently and under supervision and to develop their work based on the feedback received.  
- The student is able to use professional terms in a versatile way and to communicate in a professional manner
- The student is able to choose methods and processes appropriate to the activity and to justify their choice
- The student can take into account the needs of the target group and other students

Assessment criteria: level 5 (assessment scale 1–5)

- The student can independently conceive and implement graphic design works and develop their work based on feedback and self-assessment.  
- The student can use and apply methods competently and communicate professionally, taking into account all target groups
- The student is able to select, combine and develop methods and processes appropriate to the activity to support the work
- The student can take responsibility for the project and work in a self-directed manner
