After clinical training
student is able to apply nursing assistance methods in surgical and perioperative nursing based on evidence.

Implementation and methods of teaching

Clinical placement 3 (10 ects) is done in the third or fourth semester in different surgical, perioperative or rehabilitation nursing departments, mainly in hospital wards. The length of the practice period is four weeks (160h)

After the practice period you are able to:
- describe the special features of surgical and perioperative nursing care and rehabilitation
- choose suitable nursing interventions
- work in cooperation with adult patients and their family members
- work as a part of multiprofessional care team
- plan, implement and assess nursing care for perioperative and rehabilitation patients
- are able to work according to manners included in your future profession (registered nurse)

4 weeks of clinical practice (160h)

Assessment criteria

Plan your own personal objectives for your clinical practice period and book a time for OBJECTIVE DISCUSSION from you guiding teacher. This discussion is held between student, teacher and practical mentor.
- The Mid-term assessment of the practice period is held in the middle of the practice period together with the guiding teacher and clinical supervisor.
- After the clinical placement you will participate in mandatory simulations

Clinical placement 3 is not approved if,

- The student has not presented his/her personal objectives for clinical practice period to both guiding teacher and clinical supervisor by the second week of practice
- The student does not follow the general rules of work life: follow the working hours (being in work on time) or inform about absences on time, inappropriate behavior in the workplace etc.
- Many absences during the practice period (the practice week are not united) which makes learning and guiding almost impossible
- The student has not for some reason followed the shifts of his/her supervisor which makes assessment impossible
- The student does not show signs of learning and proceeding to meeting objectives during clinical practice

Assessment criteria: assessment scale failed/approved

Clinical placement 3 is approved if,

- The student has presented his/her personal objectives for clinical practice period to both guiding teacher and clinical supervisor by the second week of practice
- The student follows the general rules of work life: follow the working hours (being in work on time) or inform about absences on time, inappropriate behavior in the workplace etc.
- The student is active and shows interest in learning in the unit
- The student has followed the shifts of his/her supervisor which makes assessment possible
- The student shows signs of learning and proceeding to meeting objectives during clinical practice
