Objective

The student is able to
- understand how to enter new international markets as a business and as an employee using intercultural communication skills
- analyze facts and figures of the target country and connect them to cultural aspects
- produce a proposal for a training programme for a company or organisation and to publish and/or execute it.

Learning outcomes

The student is able to

In-person/class course: lectures, videos, literature, individual and group activities/tasks/assignment(s) in multicultural teams (in/out of course lessons)  

Extensive individual/group work time used outside lessons.

Learning environment (online, blended learning, in-person, classroom learning etc.)  

In-person, in-classroom weekly lessons. Intercultural Business project carried out.

Student time use and work load

135 hours. Extensive individual/group-work time used outside lessons.  In-class dialogues and activities make 2 credits and project work 3 credits.

The student is able to:​
- Understand entry to a new market as a business and/or as an employee
- Connect and analyse facts and figures of a country to cultural aspects​
- Analyse intercultural situations in real-life business settings through case studies
- Produce a proposal for a development and/or training programme and to publish it accordingly

Additional information for students: previous knowledge etc.

Prerequisites: Intercultural Awareness course or any other Intercultural Competence/Communication course.

The student somewhat understands the theories and practices of intercultural business communication The student recognizes the existence of cultural influences in international businesses, project work and leadership. The student attends the course lessons and completes course assignment(s).  

Assessment criteria: level 3 (assessment scale 1–5)

The student has good knowledge of the theories and practices of intercultural business communication. The student recognizes and understands how culture influences the dynamics and outcome in international businesses, project work and leadership.   
The student can apply some solutions to intercultural issues in business projects and communication.   
The student participates in course lessons and completes the course assignment(s).  

Assessment criteria: level 5 (assessment scale 1–5)

The student has excellent knowledge of the theories and practices of intercultural business communication and can utilize them in business environment.   
The student recognizes and understands how culture influences the dynamics and outcome in international businesses, project work and leadership. 
The student can apply a variety of solutions to challenging intercultural issues in business projects and communication. 
The student actively participates in course lessons and completes the course assignment(s).
