Implementation and methods of teaching

Preliminary assignments, exercises, pair and group work and independent studying.

Lessons Mondays and Wednesdays (+ a couple Thursdays) at 2 - 5 P.M. from 3rd of April to 6th of June.

Minimum requirement of participation is 70 % of the lessons (active participation).

Timing and attendance

The student has to be able to work intensively and attend the class - active participation is required (minimum of 70 % of the lessons)
Course in April-June 2024, 19 meetings (including 57 lessons [á 45 minutes]).

Learning material and recommended literature

Material given by the teacher.

Learning environment

Zoom and Moodle.

Student time use and work load

Approximately 81 hours (meetings + independent studying).

Contents

Review and extension of Finnish vocabulary, strengthening of grammatical structures.
On the course, the students will speak a lot and practice for example reacting in different situations and expressing their opinions on different topics.

Topics:

- How to tell about oneself, one's abilities and goals; job interview
- Everyday life and free time
- Traveling
- Relationships and feelings
- Media, films and series

Additional information for students: previous knowledge etc.

CEFR level: A2+
Prerequisites: Finnish for Work 2 or corresponding skills.

Assessment criteria

Continuous assessment (activity and speaking skills)

Assignments to be assessed: 1. Videos created in pairs and individually (pass/fail), 2. Group discussions (5-0)

Assessment scale

1-5

Assessment criteria: level 1 (assessment scale 1–5)

The student partly masters the vocabulary and grammatical structures related to the course themes.

The student understands some main spoken points and can react to questions with some sentences.

The student can speak about the course topics, but needs quite a lot of support from other speakers.

Assessment criteria: level 3 (assessment scale 1–5)

The student masters the vocabulary and grammatical structures related to the course themes well.

The student understands main spoken points and can react to questions rather versatile.

The student can start dialogues, maintain them rather well and finish them. Errors that may hinder understanding may occur from time to time.

Assessment criteria: level 5 (assessment scale 1–5)

The student masters the vocabulary and grammatical structures related to the course themes in an excellent way.

The student understands the main spoken points and can react to questions fluently and freely.

The student is proactive and flexible in different spoken situations. A few errors may occur but they do not hinder understanding.

Timing and attendance

Intensive course in May-June 2022, 19 meetings (including 57 lessons [á 45 minutes]).
The student has to be able to work and attend the class intensively especially in the afternoons from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. when the lessons take place.
