Learning outcomes

The student is able to
- recognise the different sources and tools to help them improve their English skills
- gain confidence and manage in written and oral communication situations required in professional studies and in the work life
- describe their education and qualifications
- understand the terminology and concepts of their own field

Implementation and methods of teaching

Contact lessons including oral and written course activities. Individual learning tasks online.
Compulsory assignments and activities:
-A student group-led discussion on a business-related topic, product or service (group task)
-Producing an infographic of 10-15 business-related terms with explanations (individual task)
-A CV+cover letter and a recorded Skype job interview.

The estimated workload is 3 x 27 hours, consisting of contact lessons, homework, and course assignments.
-Contact lessons: 16-22 hrs

Contents

Basic tools for language learning; some key business topics and concepts discussed in English; education and qualifications; identifying key job skills and managing in job-related situations in English.

Additional information for students: previous knowledge etc.

Intermediate to upper-intermediate level skills in English (e.g. CEFR B2 / IELTS 6)

Assessment criteria

Active attendance, all course assignments must be completed

Assessment criteria: level 1 (assessment scale 1–5)

The student can perform in communicative situations in English according to instructions and can write acceptable English.

Assessment criteria: level 3 (assessment scale 1–5)

The student can perform well in varied communicative situations and write easy-to-understand English.

Assessment criteria: level 5 (assessment scale 1–5)

The student can perform well and in a professional manner in varied written and oral communicative situations and write easy-to-read professional English.
