Learning outcomes

Student is able to understand and recognize the main factors related to company's internationalization strategy in global environment.

Implementation and methods of teaching

Lectures according to the time-table.
Students will also prepare an assignment.

Timing and attendance

Course is organised 1.11.-19.12.2021

Lectures are according to the time-table. During first lecture on week 44 course information, instructions and requirements are given.

Learning material and recommended literature

Material and literature will be informed during the first lecture.

Exam retakes

Students will prepare an individual company report (assignment) which will be graded 0-5. This grade will be the final grade of the course. In case student fails to pass the course with the assignment or would like to upgrade the accepted grade, then student is attending re-exam (based on course material). Re-exam dates are informed in the course moodle.

- key concepts of internationalization process

- basic models/theories of internationalization

- motives, risks, and barriers for internationalization

- global environment and tools for searching information about markets

- factors affecting the management decisions

- different entry strategies to global markets

Additional information for students: previous knowledge etc.

KLI 1255 Principles of Marketing and KLI1251 Global Business Environment have to be completed.

This course is not for the first year IB/ LITA students. Not for the exchange students in case they have studied similar topics already.

Assessment criteria

Individual assignment will be graded 0-5
Final grade for the course will be the assignment grade.
Student needs to get minimum grade 1 in order to pass the course.
In case student is not able to get minimum grade 1 from the individual assignment, course can be completed by written re-exam.

Failing to reach the level of 1 according to the evaluation criteria.

Assessment criteria: level 1 (assessment scale 1–5)

Student is able to recognize the steps in internationalization process of the company. Student recognizes by name different internationalization theories. Student is able to collect some data concerning international business and global environment.

Assessment criteria: level 3 (assessment scale 1–5)

Student is able to explain the internationalization process and different internationalization theories. Student is able to collect and present relevant data concerning international business, and use the data in empirical cases.

Assessment criteria: level 5 (assessment scale 1–5)

Student is able to analyse and interpret internationalization process of a company. Student is able to analyse the internationalization theories and use theory in empirical cases broadly. Student is able to collect and present appropriate and extensive amount of data of international business and global environment.
