Osaamistavoitteet

The student is able to
• implement meeting practices and produce meeting documents
• communicate fluently in professional conversations, meetings and negotiations
• present convincingly considering the audience

Toteutustapa ja opetusmenetelmät

Blended learning, in class on campus and online via Teams or Zoom. Theory and practice. Self-study, pair and group work. Reading materials, exercises and written assignments on Moodle; presentations and negotiation case exercises in class and online. Post-performance reflective discussions, peer feedback.

Ajoitus ja läsnäolo

Students are expected to attend 75% of the scheduled on-campus and online classes and actively participate in the learning activities. The compulsory assignments, both written and spoken (e.g. videos), are to be completed by the given deadlines.

All materials are provided through Moodle by the teacher.

Toteutuksen valinnaiset suoritustavat

Recognition of prior learning (RPL): The student must submit an application before or immediately after the start of the course. Neither a pathway student (nor an open UAS student) can apply for RPL.

Oppimisympäristö

Self-study and group work online via Moodle. Teacher-led pair and group practice in the classroom, also online classes via Teams or Zoom. Other digital teamwork tools according to students' own choices. Email for communication between the students and the teacher.

Opiskelijan ajankäyttö ja kuormitus

Student workload is equivalent to 4 credits (approximately 110 hours) spread evenly during the course (15 weeks).

Sisältö

- conducting, chairing, and interacting in meetings, and writing meeting documentation
- learning meeting phraseology
- applying negotiation strategies and techniques (e.g. BATNA)
- learning presentation techniques and presenting confidently considering the audience
- knowing the basic techniques for interacting in different types of meetings

Lisätietoja opiskelijalle: mm. edeltävä osaaminen

Prerequisite: Successful completion of English for Work or equivalent. The course is taught at a B2 level according to the Common European Framework (CEFR).

Arviointimenetelmät

Continuous evaluation: regular attendance (75%) and active participation in exercises, successful completion of written and spoken assignments. Tests: Students' skills are evaluated in 1-2 meetings arranged in small groups and one presentation in front of an audience.

The student has acquired basic spoken, written and nonverbal communication skills in business meetings and negotiations. The student is able to give basic presentations in English. The student has not fully reached the professional standard required to interact in meetings and give presentations.

The student has acquired good spoken, written and nonverbal communication skills in business meetings and negotiations. The student is able to give professional and coherent presentations in English. The student is able to apply the acquired skills in varied business settings in English.

Arviointikriteerit: taso 5 (arviointiasteikko 1-5)

The student has acquired excellent spoken, written and nonverbal communication skills in business meetings and negotiations. The student is able to give professional, coherent, and fluent presentations in English. The student has found their own personal style to interact in meetings and give presentations. The student is able to apply the acquired skills in an expert manner in varied business settings in English.
