The student is able to:
- describe the manufacturing processes of different board products
- knows the main end uses of each board type
- define the technical properties of different board types
- knows the further processing possibilities of different board types
Implementation and methods of teaching
Student will learn:
- wood-based panels globally
- Finnish plywood industry and its history
- Finnish LVL industry and its history
- the production processes of different wood-based panels (plywood, LVL, OSB, fibreboard, MDF)
- the applications of different wood-based panels
- the technical properties of different wood-based panels
- laboratory work 1: how to produce plywood
- laboratory work 1: how to produce particle board
- testing plywood and particle board according to standards
- company visit to plywood or LVL mill
