Learning outcomes

The student is able to
- identify aspects related to global corporate communication
- understand the communication process in purchasing and sales
- communicate both orally and in writing in different kinds of communication situations
- conduct meetings and negotiations in a global business environment

Implementation and methods of teaching

Contact lessons/workshops, written and oral activities during contact lessons/workshops. Global communication skills will be practiced in an online project with students from Universitat Politècnica de València, Spain. Compulsory attendance in contact lessons. Individual and group assignments. No substitute assignments for late assignments or missed contact lessons.

Timing and attendance

Partly online, partly in class. Written and oral activities during contact lessons. Compulsory attendance. Missed contact lessons may affect the final course grade.
First contact lesson: Tuesday, Sept 17 at 12:30 in M19_C212. Attendance is absolutely mandatory to secure a place on the course.

Contents

Oral and written professional and business communication. Team discussions to practice negotiation skills. Readings about global business and global business communication. Homework and assignments based on the readings.

Additional information for students: previous knowledge etc.

Prerequisite: English for Work, grade H3/5, or equivalent.

Assessment criteria

Coursework and assignments. The student must complete all assignments. A possible final exam. Grading: fail/pass (3)/better than average work can be graded 4 or 5.

The student has excellent oral and written skills in professional and business communication in English and can diversely apply the acquired terminology and processes in demanding professional communicative situations. The student can work exceptionally well as a member of a global team.
