Learning outcomes

The student is able to
- to know the key technological solutions used for air, soil, waste, energy, water management to minimize environmental impacts
- to search information about BAT- and other advanced environmental technologies due to the BREF and other documents available
- to understand the role of the circular economy in the resource efficient industrial economy

Implementation and methods of teaching

The course is a virtual course. Also assignments and exams are done independently or in teams. There will be 3 - 4 contact learning sessions, which exact timing and content will be informed in the course´s Moodle platform. The contact learning session will be arranged on Thursday afternoons.

Timing and attendance

The study module will start on the week 2 and last for seven weeks. The contact learning sessions will be arranged every second week, Wednesday afternoons. It is strongly recommended to participate contact learning sessions. The dead lines for assignments and exams will be informed in the beginning of the study module.

All materials used in the course will be achievable online and delivered in Moodle.

Student time use and work load

The average theoretical work load for this course is about 135 hours (5 ECTS). The main part of the study module´s work load consists of independent and group work, about 80 hours.The time allocation for contact learning (lectures, work shops) is about 10 hours. There is also about 40 hours time allocated for final exam, preparation and execution.

Contents

The course observes basic technological solutions used for air, soil, waste and water management to minimize environmental impact of the human activities. The advanced environmental technologies are introduced in accordance with the European Union system of the Best Available Technologies (BATs) and Best Available Techniques Reference Documents (BREFs). Also, the role of circular economy to minimize environmental effect will be dealt.

Assessment criteria

All of the assignments and exam given by teachers must be done (and approved). The more detailed evaluation criterias will be informed in the beginning of the study module.
