Learning outcomes

The student is able to
- obtain, utilise and assess R&D-related information and their sources critically
- follow the rules of ethical principles applied in all research activities
- use the most typical research and development methods of their own field
- write a scientific report and is familiar with the requirements for language and style and how to document the sources

Implementation and methods of teaching

Non-stop course in Moodle. Scheduled discussions in workshops on key topics and a joint exploration of the subject. The teaching method is a "flipped classroom", i.e. the participants in the workshop must be familiar with the topic in advance. Tasks can also be completed independently of the workshops.

Timing and attendance

Workshops in the fall of 2023. The course can be completed according to your schedule.

Learning material and recommended literature

Material shared on Moodle. Students will need other sources to familiarise themselves with the subject area and will learn information retrieval methods at the same time.

Working life cooperation

The course prepares you for thesis work and research work in working life.

Moodle, WWW, workshops, independent work.

Student time use and work load

Workshops 7 * 4 hours. Mostly independent work for about 100 hours.

Contents

The role of research as part of business today, the philosophy behind scientific research, research methods, building a frame of reference, research ethics, data sources and data collection, and making a research plan.

Additional information for students: previous knowledge etc.

Sufficient knowledge in their own professional field, at least compulsory core studies completed in the first two years.

Assessment criteria

Grading is based on a series of small assignments, some of which are group work and some are individual assignments.

A pass requires a well-prepared research plan, which can be used to commence thesis work.
