The student is able to complete a simple product development project and is able act as a part of a project group. The student is able use various sources for information and is able to adapt the information in the challenges of design and manufacturing. The student is able to produce manufacturing documents and drawings. The student understands the design choices compared to the manufacturing costs.

Timing and attendance

Design in autumn 2020
Manufacturing spring 2021

Student time use and work load

In the course a mechanical device is designed and manufactured as a group work. Each group is provided with a budget which can be used to purchase parts and components for the mechanical device.

First phase: Design
The autumn 2020 is reserved for the design and planning of the device. The work is to be completed as self guided work with the help of guided design sessions once per month.

Second phase: Manufacturing
The group has to manufacture the mechanical device previously designed.

Contents

The goal of the course is that the student is able to perform manufacturing drawings for a mechanical device and is able to follow those drawings in order to manufacture the device designed. The student learns to understand the link between design and manufacturing.
