Osaamistavoitteet
The student is able to
- understand the main features about the history of the cities
- identify and define different values in urban built environment as well as means to preserve them
- understand important international treaties and national legislation protecting valuable environments as well as the meaning of international organisations in preservation
- present case examples to demonstrate the variability of built heritage and means to preserve it (for example town planning, local participation of civil society, renovation)
Toteutustapa ja opetusmenetelmät
History and preservation of urban areas is carried out as online course. All the lecture slides and recordings will be in Moodle under the name of the course. All the courseworks are submitted in Moodle. The course platform will open on 10th September 2020 and all the submissions must be in Moodle before 10th December, 2020, to be evaluated.

The student needs to reserve 5 x 27 hours for this course - 135 hours including reading required material, listening the lectures, preparing the assignments and other tasks given in the course.
Sisältö
On completion of this module the student is able to:
• Describe the basic features concerning the history of urban areas
• Understand how the values of urban environment are defined and how preservation is enhanced in international and national levels.
• Figure out the possible threats the cultural environment is facing in different circumstances.
• Evaluate preservation processes through case studies and analyse the roles and impacts of different stakeholders in them.
