Learning outcomes
Our International Winter School is aimed for students interested in environmental issues with either a technological or a business background, who are particularly interested in how to combine business, technology and the environment.
The main themes are responsible business, life cycle thinking and environmental marketing. The one-week study programme consists of workshops, group work, excursions and lectures. The social programme offers the opportunity to experience Finnish winter and culture with activities, such as sauna bathing and ice fishing.
The student
- knows descriptions and main contents of the Circular Economy concept on various levels: Europe/ national / company
- understands solution models to improve resource efficiency as a part of company`s strategies, production and business.
- understands the role of economic, social and environmental responsibility as an integrated part of the corporate strategy and everyday business
- evaluate environmental and social performance of companies
Implementation and methods of teaching
Preparatory work and online international intensive week (15.2.- 19.2.2021.) including lectures, company meetings,and an international multi-disciplinary group work.
Learning material and recommended literature
Theoretical back ground literature will be informed to students one month before the intensive week.
Working life cooperation
Winter school includes also a preparatory work made for companies of Lahti region. The topics relate to company level solution of circular economy.

Learning environment
Winters school is an intensive week from Monday 15.2. till Friday 19.2. with full program every day. The amount of participants is around 50 and they come from 10 countries globally. Winter school intensive week have been arranged more than ten years but this year the course will be held online for the first time. Multicultural and interdisciplinary team working is in the core of the week.
Student time use and work load
Participation requires active participation during the whole week from Monday till Friday afternoon. The preparatory work must be ready one week before the intensive week. Topics for the preparatory work are informed to the participants ca. a month before the intensive week.

Active participation during the week and contribution on groupwork. Understanding theory of the circular economy and it´s implementation possibilities in the companies. Active and result oriented cooperation with in a multinational and diciplinary group.
