Learning outcomes

The student is able to
- assess patients’ functional capacity and specify nursing care needs
- provide basic care in accordance with the patient safety
- identify and observe patient’s vital signs (ABCDE)
- provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
- encounter clients and act professionally and ethically with the clients

Course includes individual tasks, team assignments, online learning, lectures, Finnish language learning

The material in e-learning platform provided by the teachers.

RPL for students with Practical Nurse / Nurse diploma

Working life cooperation

Study visits and project are implemented in co-operation with health care units (i.e. hospitals, nursing homes, service housing units).

Contents

Course includes
- study visits to health care units in order to familiarize yourself with nursing environments
- learning in a project in order to encounter with clients professionally
- studies related to working ergonomics
- first aid lessons in order to learn CPR technique
- individual online learning related to patient safety
- simulation in order to practice basic nursing skills

Assessment criteria

The course is evaluated Approved/Failed.
Completing the course successfully requires participation in every learning activity and attending to lessons, skill labs and simulation.
The evaluation consists of the following areas;
Active participation in study visits (pass/fail)
Active participation in project planning and implementation (pass/fail)
Active participation in working ergonomics lecture and skill lab (pass/fail)
Active participation in first aid lesson (pass/fail)
Active participation in simulation (pass/fail)
Completing "Patient safety" online course (pass/fail).

Assessment criteria: assessment scale failed/approved

Student is able to
- demonstrate skills and knowledge in working ergonomic and CPR techniques in skills lab environment and is able to justify his/her actions
- demonstrate skills and knowledge in basic nursing interventions in simulation and is able to justify his/her actions
- demonstrate skills and knowledge interaction with clients and is able to justify his/her actions
- demonstrate knowledge in patient safety and is able to justify his/her actions
