Learning outcomes

The student is able to
- prepare and deliver business presentations in English
- become aware of different techniques used in presentations
- understand the role cultural aspects play in presentations

Implementation and methods of teaching

This course will be carried out via lectures, in-class practice tasks, and assessed presentations (individual/group). Students will receive their grades based on their performance during assessed presentations. Compulsory attendance to all courses lessons required as most of the learning re assessment requirements are given/practiced. Compulsory attendance required at contact lessons and at the assessed presentations. Substitute assignments not given for missed lessons, presentations. Missed presentations = fail course. To ensure study place in course, attendance compulsory at the first lecture (contact lesson).

Timing and attendance

Compulsory attendance required at the first lecture, all contact lessons, and at all assessed presentations. All assessed presentations must be completed to complete/pass the course. There are no substitute assignments given for the missed presentations.

Learning material and recommended literature

All materials will be provided by the lecturer.

Exam retakes

Students will receive their grades based on their performance during assessed presentations. Attendance at these assessed presentations is compulsory, there are no substitute assignments. The dates for these assessed presentations will be confirmed during the first lecture.

Learning environment

All teaching will be carried out in the lecture room.

Students will need to check the dates of the assessed presentations and allow time for preparing and practicing their presentations.

Contents

This course provides students with basic presentation and public speaking skills in English. The objective is to learn how to prepare and deliver business presentations and other talks in English.

Additional information for students: previous knowledge etc.

No previous presenting skills required.

Assessment criteria

Students will receive their grades based on their performance during assessed presentations. Attendance at these assessed presentations is compulsory, there are no substitute assignments given. All assessed presentations must be presented and graded a pass grade in order to complete/pass the course.

Non-attendance at an assessed presentation. Failing all assessed presentations.
Inability to deliver a basic coherent presentation.

Assessment criteria: level 1 (assessment scale 1–5)

Attendance at all assessed presentations.
Receiving a passing grade for all assessed presentations.
Ability to prepare and deliver a basic and coherent presentation.

Assessment criteria: level 3 (assessment scale 1–5)

Attendance at all assessed presentations.
Receiving a passing grade for all assessed presentations.
Ability to prepare and deliver a professional and coherent presentation.
Ability to deliver a presentation which is appropriate to the target audience.
Good body language.

Assessment criteria: level 5 (assessment scale 1–5)

Attendance at all assessed presentations.
Receiving a passing grade for all assessed presentations.
Ability to prepare and deliver a professional and coherent presentation.
Ability to deliver a presentation which is appropriate to the target audience.
Ability to produce quality slides to support the presentation.
Ability to produce presentations for the appropriate length of time required.
Great audience interaction and excellent body language.
