Implementation and methods of teaching

100% online. Online tests and other course activities based on course materials. A final assignment (about 5 pages).

Timing and attendance

E-learning. 100% online.
The course is ongoing and self pace. This means that students must proceed according to their own schedule. The final written assignments is assessed once a month at the end of the month. For example, if a student needs a grade by mid-November, the deadline is the last Monday in October.

Learning material and recommended literature

All the required course materials are available online through the Reppu learning platform.

Alternative completion methods

All the required online tests and other course activities must be passed. There are no substitute assignments.

Contents

The course focuses on various business-related themes in English (e.g. business logistics, entrepreneurship, financial management, information technology, tourism and hospitality management). Students must choose three themes to focus on. Since the course is self paced and does not have set deadlines, students must know how to study independently and have good time management skills.

Additional information for students: previous knowledge etc.

Upper-intermediate to advanced level in English (CEFR B2/C1 / IELTS 6.5).
Prerequisite:
English for Work (English Language / Englannin kieli ja viestintä) 3 ECTS, preferably with a grade 3/5 or higher. For best learning outcomes, the student should know how to study independently, set goals, and manage his/her time.

The student understands the basic terminology and expressions used in a variety of subject-specific texts. The student acknowledges the existence of cultural influences in different business situations.

Assessment criteria: level 3 (assessment scale 1–5)

The student understands most of the terminology and expressions used in a variety of subject-specific texts and applies these in his/her work. The student acknowledges and applies his/her knowledge about cultural influences in different business situations.

Assessment criteria: level 5 (assessment scale 1–5)

The student has excellent knowledge of the terminology and expressions used in a variety of subject-specific texts and produces high-quality content based on his/her knowledge. The student is able to recognize and apply his/her knowledge in cultural influences in different business situations.
