Learning outcomes
The student is able to
- create software requirement specifications to develop business
- choose the most suitable option from a range of software options
- plan software deployment in an organisation
Implementation and methods of teaching
Based on lectured content the students will create short group works, group presentations and sometimes individually written essays. Lectures are mandatory and the lecture material is not suitable for self study.
Timing and attendance
Presence during lectures/sessions is required. Request and discuss exceptions separately with the instructor. Progress will be systematic, tasks are given weekly. Reppu reflects the current state of course studies and current activities in sessions.
Learning material and recommended literature
Slides from lectures are viewable from Reppu, but it is beneficial to take notes as required.
Learning environment
Teamwork and discussion mainly on campus, some team work assignments and individual research can naturally be done off-campus. Reppu is used as a communication platform.
Student time use and work load
In addition to the sessions booked in Lukkari, there will be nearly always be some weekly work (left) to do either in teams or individually.
Contents
This course approaches the subject from both acquirer and vendor perspective. How to define software requirement specifications and how to choose a solution to fulfill them. How a vendor provides good service for a customer. Responding to changing customer requirements and situations. How to be an educated, fair acquirer and a service oriented, efficient vendor. Planning for software deployment in an organization and deployment execution. Planning and handling maintenance. All in all: what to consider when communicating with vendors and customers in various stages of procurement and deployment.

Student can choose the most suitable option from a range of software options. The student fully understand the importance of long term co-operation between vendor and acquirer and the benefits of their relationship.
