Learning outcomes

The student is able to
- identify own cultural background and the connection it has to thinking, behaving and communicating in multicultural environments
- analyze and understand the adjustment and adaptation process to a new culture
- demonstrate an ability to draw on major theories and concepts in intercultural situations

Implementation and methods of teaching

In-class lectures/exchange country study/presentation/discussions.

Timing and attendance

The in-class training workshops are held once a week, three hours per lesson. Attendance is compulsory for all workshops and presentations. No substitute work given.

Contents

The course is targeted to students going on exchange and will prepare them for the exchange period. The course will include in-class workshops. Furthermore, the student will become aware of and understand the adjustment and adaptation process to a new culture.The student will examine the target country/culture based on specific themes, comparing similarities and differences to own country/culture, especially the national culture, university/classroom culture.

This course is targeted for students going on exchange. No prerequisites required.

Attendance (100%) and active participation (actively voicing opinions, participating in classroom discussions) in in-class workshop lessons.
