Assessment scale: 5 – 0 Evaluation: Attendance at 80% of the contact lessons, regular and active participation during lessons. Assessment of spoken and written skills. All compulsory assignments must be completed on time.

The course is taught at a B2 level according to the Common European Framework.
Students can take an online proficiency test (tasokoe) at the start of their studies. Those who fail the test are strongly advised to complete a preparatory course in English (English Prep Course 3 credits) before or alongside taking the course English for Work.

Learning environment: Online (Zoom and Moodle), blended learning
Students´ use of time and workload: 4 ECTS course, which means about 100 - 110 hours of student's work. Student's workload consists of regularly and actively participating in lessons, studying the course material, watching video materials, completing written and oral assignments, which include pass/ fail assignments as well as assignments for teacher's evaluation.
Contents: Students will: - learn the main terminology and concepts of their own field - manage in written and oral communication situations required in professional studies and in the work life - recognize and apply different sources and tools to help improve their English skills - learn to participate in workshops and group discussions as well as give presentations

Performance meets few of the set expectations of given assignment. The student speaks in a vaguely consistent manner. Delivery is minimally structured. Linguistic performance is minimally accurate and appropriate to the context. Pauses are rather long and at times pronunciation hinders comprehension.
Grade 3 The student has met the assignment requirements adequately. Work displays somewhat consistent and appropriate register. Content is somewhat effective and diverse. The text has a reasonably logical structure. The text is rather cohesive. Minor mistakes occur in style. The student mostly constructs sentences well. Grammatical irregularities occur. Vocabulary is adequately professional and mostly appropriate to context. In most cases the student speaks in a style appropriate to the assignment. Student interacts with participants. Performance meets most set expectations of given assignment. The student speaks in a consistent manner. Delivery is structured. Linguistic performance is somewhat accurate and appropriate to the context, although short pauses and hesitations may occur.
Grade 5 The student has met the assignment requirements fully. Work displays consistent and appropriate register. Content is effective, diverse, and skillfully delivered.
