Learning outcomes
Basic everyday words and phrases for complete beginners who will stay a short time in Finland.

Timing and attendance
First lesson: 15.1.2020, 16-18, NIE73_B206
Contact classes from 15th Jan to 19th Feb 2020. 80 % presence required. Assignment deadlines and details on written exam will be given during the course.

Material delivered by the teacher (e-learning environment Reppu).
Exam retakes
Written exam at the end of the course. Possibility for a retake will be discussed if needed.

Contents
Contents
- introduction to special features of Finnish: grammar, spelling, pronunciation
- everyday phrases in common situations: greetings, introductions, shopping, at a restaurant etc.
- numerals: cardinal and ordinal numbers
- time expressions: days of the week, months, time
- personal and possessive pronouns
- sentence structure: forming affirmative and negative sentences and questions
- conjugation of verbs in the present tense
Additional information for students: previous knowledge etc.
No previous knowledge of Finnish needed.
Assessment criteria
Attendance (80 % required) and active participation during the course, including homework; oral test/assignment, written test.

Failed attendance, oral assignment and/or written exam not passed.
Assessment criteria: level 1 (assessment scale 1–5)
Modest effort and level of oral assignment in relation to the contents of the course,
50-59 % of points reached in written exam.

70-79 % of points reached in written exam.
