Learning outcomes
The student is able to
- design and produce functional packaging graphics
- select the printing method and create a print-ready material package from her/his design
- request a quote for printing her/his graphic design
- describe the challenges and possibilities of different materials and printing techniques.
Implementation and methods of teaching
The design process will follow iteration rounds and will be done as group work. The student will gain an understanding of the design process through hands-on work. Teaching is based on lectures, classroom teaching and group guidance. Students will complete work independently in addition to classroom work. There will be an exam about the lecture part of the course.
Final evaluation:
20% exam
40% activity in contact days and process
40% outcome including the presentations.

Active attendance during contact hours and commitment to group/pair work. (absences should be informed beforehand for the teacher and the group
Learning material and recommended literature
Lecture materials and other supporting materials will be provided through Reppu. The teacher brings part of the sample materials to the classroom.
Contents
Students learn to design packaging graphics. Basic skills in preparing work for printing are acquired. Students understand the communication aspects of packaging graphics and different printing techniques. The main project will be done in small groups. Social, and multidisciplinary skills are strengthened. The project is designed through iteration rounds. The group is able to argue and present their choices from concept to finish.

This course is part of a Packaging module. Other parts of this module are:
MI00BM06-3004 Basics of Packaging Design
MI00BM07-3004 Packaging Design Model Making and Modeling Materials Workshop (for Pamu students only), and
MI00BQ69-3003 Basics of typography for branding and packaging design.
The students will use Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat software to complete the works. Please note that this course is not software teaching as such, but students will learn to use features of the programs that support designing the graphics. Previous knowledge is not required but is a plus. Groups/pairs will be divided so that students can support each other with different skills.
