Learning outcomes

The student is able to
- design and produce a basic, short 3D character animation
- describe a workflow of a simplified 3D animation production process
- work as a junior member in a professional 3D animation team

Implementation and methods of teaching

There will be some lecturing involved, but the main focus for the student will be in an independent 3D production work. Teacher will be supervising the projects.

The student must be able to attend the contact lessons, during which there will be regular project development checks.

The student must be present at the critique day at the end on the course and prepare a visual presentation on the project development.

Alternative completion methods

In special situations settled with the teacher, the student must agree on a regular check up times with the teacher (during the contact hours). The student must be present at the critique day at the end on the course and prepare a visual presentation on the project development.

Contents

Primary for Media Content Design -students.

The course is a workshop in which the students are producing a short 3D-animated piece under supervision. The attendance on the contact lectures is required.

The students will have a practical exprerience on the 3D-animation project workflow and will be able to complete a 3D-animated piece on deadline.

Additional information for students: previous knowledge etc.

Primary for Media Content Design -students.

The students must have completed 3D Animation Tools -course succesfully.

Assessment criteria

The student must have completed a 3D-animated project work on deadline and give a visual presentation on the project development. The grade will be based on the project, the presentation and discussion on the student's development and ability to produce a visually successfull 3D-animated project.

Assessment criteria: level 1 (assessment scale 1–5)

The student must have completed a 3D-animated project work on deadline and give a visual presentation on the project development. The grade will be based on the project, the presentation and discussion on the student's development and ability to produce a visually successfull 3D-animated project.
The student must be able to:
*produce a 3D-animated project on deadline,
*show an ability to produce 3D-models, characters and environments,
*show an ability to produce basic textures for 3D-models, characters and environments,
*show an ability to create lighting and to operate a camera in 3D environment,
*show an ability to animate 3D models and characters.

Student needs assistance in producing work.

Assessment criteria: level 3 (assessment scale 1–5)

The student must be able to:
*produce a 3D-animated project on deadline,
*show an ability (and understanding of why) to produce topologically correct 3D-models, characters and environments,
*show an ability to produce moderate textures and paint textures on 3D-models, characters and environments,
*show an ability to use creative lighting and to operate a camera in 3D environment,
*show an ability to convincingly animate 3D models and characters,
*create a visually successfull piece of 3D-animation.

Student is able to apply tools and techniques in practice.

Assessment criteria: level 5 (assessment scale 1–5)

The student must be able to:
*produce a 3D-animated project on deadline,
*show an ability (and understanding of why) to produce topologically correct, visually pleasing, complex 3D-models, characters and environments,
*show an ability to produce complex textures and paint textures on 3D-models, characters and environments,
*show a great skill in creative lighting and camera work in 3D environment,
*show excellence in an ability to convincingly animate 3D models and characters,
*create visually impressive piece of 3D-animation.

Student is capable to apply tools and techniques in practice creatively and independently.
