Learning objectives

The student

• understands the paradigm and the methodology behind qualitative research methods

• is able to produce a research plan for a qualitative study

• is able to evaluate the reliability and validity of qualitative research

Assignments require plenty of preparation. Research plan written as the final assignment.

Contents

The course consists of two parts, qualitative research methods and academic reporting.
Beginning contact session (time and place will be confirmed later) Contents, objectives, timetable, and evaluation of the course. Otherwise virtual/self-study course.

Analysis methods. Academic reporting is intended for students who have already earned all other English credits and are in the process of starting to write their thesis.

Assessment criteria

Course evaluation is based on students' knowledge and practical skills. Evaluation is based on several written assignments executed, returned, and evaluated during the course.

Failed (0)

Student fails to submit the required assignments and hence does not manifest an adequate level of theoretical knowledge in qualitative research methods nor practical skills in designing a research plan.

Assessment criteria: assessment scale failed/approved

The student knows and is able to apply the basic ideologies of qualitative research into practice on a good level. The targets of the course assignments are covered at a good level. The student has good skills in academic reporting and is able to apply the academic writing standard independently.

Assessment criteria: level 1 (assessment scale 1–5)

Student submits the required course assignments and manifests a satisfactory level of theoretical knowledge in qualitative research methods as well as practical skills in designing a research plan.

Assessment criteria: level 3 (assessment scale 1–5)

Student submits the required course assignments and manifests a good level of theoretical knowledge in qualitative research methods as well as practical skills in designing a research plan.

Assessment criteria: level 5 (assessment scale 1–5)

Student submits the required course assignments and manifests an excellent level of theoretical knowledge in qualitative research methods as well as practical skills in designing a research plan.
